April 21, 1957, under the leadership, of Reverend John Wesley Short and seven worshipers, met to organize a Church. The meeting was held at 2861 N. Capitol Ave; Indianapolis, Indiana, in the home of Reverend Short. Those in attendance was

At this meeting at the suggestion of Mrs. Elzoria Short, the name "Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church" was accepted. Reverend John Wesley Short was officially elected as the Pastor of Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

    Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church was accepted and confirmed by the Council of Baptist

    Ministers, representing The Central District Missionary Baptist Association.

  • April 28, 1957

    The FIRST SERVICE of Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church was held at 2304 North Capitol Avenue at the Women's Federation Club Home. Later, Services was moved to 316 West 30th Street.

  • March 18, 1962

    The Church moved to our current address 519 East 23rd Street.

  • February 12, 1968

    Pastor J.W. Short shared His vision "God would fill the Church with members; If you will only BELIEVE"

  • December 10, 1972

    Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church paid off its original mortgage and remodeled the Sanctuary.

  • July 26, 1974

    Reverend J.W. Short. Our Founder, Teacher and TRULY a Man of God was called Home to be with Our Lord

  • September 1, 1974

    Reverend Sterling Lewis Williams, Sr. was elected as Pastor of Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. The Church is blessed to have a capable, loving Pastor with a Strong Conviction for the "Word of God"

    The second mortgage was paid

  • March, 1980

    Greater Morning Star purchased property adjacent and directly across from the Church. to later extend the Church and create a parking lot.

  • August 09, 1981

    Ground Breaking Ceremonies was held for a New Edifice

  • June 06, 1982

    First Worship Service Held in the New Edifice

  • January 18, 1987

    Reverend Robert Meadows was appointed as Assistant Pastor

  • March, 1989

    Purchased property adjacent to the Parking Lot

  • August 11,1989

    Deacon Eugene Oliver appointed as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Deacon Oliver slogan was "Greater Morning Star Always Rises to the Occasion'' . Deacon Oliver held that position until his death

  • January 09, 1994

    Deacon Lawrence Golden was appointed Chairman of the Deacon Board along with seven newly appointed Deacons. Deacon Golden held that position until His Death.

  • March 19, 1995

    The Mortgage was paid for the Church Building

    The Purchase of 5502 East 36th Street which was named Greater Morning Star Northeast Chapel.

  • August 23, 1999

    Greater Morning Star Childcare Ministries was formed

    Nine New Deacons was appointed
